More about Baraboo
Once the birth-place and winter retreat for the world-famous Ringling Brothers Circus, Baraboo today is a picturesque town of approximately 12,000 people that rests between Devil's Lake State Park and the Dells of Central Wisconsin. The town boasts a rich history of logging and trapping which dates from the first village charter in 1866. Local lore has it that the town may be named for legendary French trapper, Jean Baribault, who occupied a shanty on the Baraboo River in the 1700s or, perhaps, for the French word for a native fish. Regardless, Baraboo today is a bustling manufacturing and commercial town that is home to several popular tourist attractions. In addition to the Circus World Museum, visitors enjoy the natural beauty and sheer cliffs of nearby Devil's Lake State Park and the International Crane Foundation bird refuge. In addition, there are an array of city parks, zoos, nature preserves and ski resorts within close proximity to Baraboo. Hi-rollers also flock to the area to place bets and play the odds at the nearby Ho-Chunk Casino.
