CHRIST CHURCH PARISH. Chef Josef Schwaiger's Japanese offering is located upstairs from his much celebrated and better known restaurant on the ground floor, and it is just as impressive. Kampai sports the clean, sleek look of Asian design punctuated with bright red. Sushi, among the very best on the island, is the main draw, but the menu features a number of other choices that will appeal to a wide variety of tastes. Highlights include octopus and lobster carpaccio with spicy lemon dressing, broiled scallops in butter-ponzu sauce, panko-fried crab claws and lobster tempura.

ST. JAMES PARISH. The Sandy Lane Hotel's signature restaurant, L'Acajou (Mahogany), enjoys a prime open-air setting graced by the majestic trees for which it's named. With the ocean just a few feet away, it's certainly a picturesque spot to relish the restaurant's supremely fresh sushi and sashimi, hoisin glazed duck, seared wasabi crusted yellowfin, and pork char sui. Not a fan of Japanese cooking? Never fear – there are several Continental choices as well, such as rack of lamb en cocotte. Desserts are slightly exotic but delectable: chocolate fondant with green tea ice cream, banana-dulce de leche harumaki roll, and raspberry soufflé. Three-course meal BBD225.

ST. PETER PARISH. By day, Mannie's is a trendy beach bar serving simple but tasty Caribbean-American fare, fruity cocktails, a wealth of watersports, and comfortable chairs for lounging on the beach. Come nightfall, however, the offerings become more romantic and exotic. The context may be a bit unexpected, but Japanese and Thai food somehow seem appropriate against the backdrop of gentle waves and sandy beach. Sushi, pad-thai, spring rolls, and tod-mun fish cakes with Thai curry paste taste oh-so-good here, no matter how untraditional the setting.

ST. PHILIP PARISH. Part of the allure of the Crane Hotel's Zen is the ambiance. It's not unusual to find a Japanese restaurant with a sizable tatami room for groups, but Zen also has several smaller ones for couples and foursomes. Lovely Crane Beach provides an unbeatable view, while the kitchen turns out excellent Thai and Japanese dishes that will leave you thoroughly satisfied. Miso soup and sushi are wonderful; Thai dishes like Tom Yam Kai (hot and sour soup with chicken, lemongrass, lime juice and mushrooms) and Bai Grapaw (prawns stir-fried with extra spicy chili, onion and basil leaves) are authentic and delicious. A brief Continental menu is also available; breakfast and lunch menus are comprised of simple but satisfying and well-prepared American fare.
