It was my second visit to this great museum next to the great steps of Mont. juic. Having been to a lot of pre historic sites in cataluna and provincial museums i have the sad news that this museum is not equipped to support domestic nor international tourism. At present the museum is host to a roman exhibition. There are two things i ought to warn you about. 1.The visiting exhibit is included in the normal entrance price 3 euros. 2.There are no guides in English for the roman visiting exhibit 3.All exhibits are mono lingual in Catalan with no explanation in spanish for the exhibits 4.No supporting info in Spanish nor English for visiting pieces 5. No audio guides Having been to other Catalan museums, i understand the need to support the maternal language. The problem is that half the museum for the permanent exhibits is supported by English handouts. The other half not. The bad part is that the exhibits to the explanations are numbered incorrectly on the guides. Thus one is unable to pair the information to the exhibit. This is a pity. For me the museum is rich with history and with some well preserved pieces. Unless you're an expert you will be lost without a good grasp of Catalan. Once halfway through the museum, all Spanish explanations disappear. What is left is monolingual in Catalan. What is more, the handouts are no longer available in Spanish. This occurs around the bronze age exhibits. What has annoyed me the most, advertisements carry the government of Spain but the exhibition seems the most closed to any form of foreign tourism. For this reason, I'm going to urge the tourist board to not recommend this museum to non catalan speakers. For this reason, i recommend not supporting any visit to this museum until it supports the needs of domestic, nay international tourism. Being a great fan of pre history, this blow to foreign archaeologists is indeed a shame to the supposed open nature of cataluna's tourism. End thoughts: Either lazy or not well planned out, this museum is rich with culture, but poor with supporting domestic [spanish] and international visitors.
