La Llotja

OLD TOWN. Built in the 1380's and followed by a rich, ongoing history. Initially served as the center of operations for the league of Catalan sea traders. From 1771 through 1994, this was home to Barcelona's stock exchange, while also hosting the Barcelona School of Fine Arts (a school that produced alumni such as Picasso and Joan Miró) from 1849 to 1970. Presently the site of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a public library.
