8. Rathaus

The Rathaus (Town Hall), located on Marktplatz, is the focal point of Basel's market square. Construction began on the late gothic structure in 1504 and was finished 10 years later with subsequent renovations and additions completed throughout the years. The façade and inner courtyard are adorned with frescoes, and a massive clock features images of the Madonna, Emperor Henry II, and his wife, Kunegunde.   (© 10Best)
