This facsimile of a 15th century gargoyle is located on the corner of a local restaurant named Churrasco. The original mechanized gargoyle was situated on a gate tower on the city's Grossbasel side. It represented a king who stuck his tongue out and rolled his eyes as rival Kleinbasel citizens crossed the river.

The powerful 14th century Spalen Gate marks one of the boundaries of the medieval section of the city. Twin battlement towers frame the central part, and it is roofed with glazed tiles. Basel's Coat of Arms is situated on the west façade of the gate.
