8. Zum Schutzenhaus

Really bad experience
Expecting a nice place, we went to "Zum Schutzenhaus" on a Sunday evening. Nice garden, nicely decorated tables. But, first surprise : the menu displayed only 4 starters (including 3 relatively basic salads) et 4 main courses (2 kinds of schnitzels, one basic steak and one gulash). We ordered and after a few minutes were told that two of the items we asked for were not available ...). So I got a steak (meat was ok) and my wife the remaining Wienerschnitzel. Now the wine : a red Swiss Alinghi served at something around 26° (the air temperature that day) ; to the surprise of the waiter, I had to ask to put the bottle in an ice bucket (something a wine amateur does not like but is sometimes forced to do). We got no apologises for all this. No need to say we skipped the dessert. Conclusion : when in Basel, if you cannot afford the 2 Michelin stars "Cheval Blanc", better go to Mac Donald.
