AVON. This cozy little bakeshop in Avon serves up its delicious homemade fare with a touch of European flavor. Pop in for a bite at breakfast, and you'll find no shortage of tasty offerings to get you going, including fresh-made danishes, muffins, and quiches as well as heartier breakfast plates with two eggs, hash browns, Columbine rolls, and either bacon, ham, or sausage. If you miss your morning stop, later in the day you can swing by for a delish soup and sandwich combo or their tri-cheese chicken tortellini. Of course, the place also gets high marks for its sinful sweets, and its made-to-order cakes are among the best in Vail Valley.

BACHELOR GULCH. The signature restaurant of the Ritz-Carlton, versatile Remington's can accommodate both the hungry family and a couple seeking a romantic getaway. The spacious dining room is marked by its vaulted ceiling, large windows, dark-stained trim work, and European-style ambiance. On any given night, featured entrees may include the likes of Twin Creek Ranch elk loin with blueberry game sauce, Colorado farm-raised trout with almond and lemon butter sauce, and pork chop glazed with whole-grain mustard. Morning appetites, too, are well-pampered thanks to dishes like the goat cheese frittata and blueberry pancakes with strawberry coulis. Reservations are a must.

AVON. An especially sound choice for a morning pick-me-up, the Route 6 Cafe in Avon serves up delicious American cuisine all day long at prices that won't make you hock your snow shoes. Indeed, this "5-Star Roadhouse" earns high praise from locals for both its casual, family-friendly atmosphere and its tasty breakfast fare, which ranges from NY steak and eggs and outstanding homemade omelets to chicken-fried steak and huevos rancheros. In the evening, things become a touch more refined, as candle-lit tables and fine wines set a romantic tone for the cedar plank salmon with cilantro pesto crust and their signature Colorado lamb chops with whole-grain mustard crust and rosemary au jus.

BEAVER CREEK. This is the place to start your day or to take a break and wind down. In the early hours, you can order the wake-up call of your preference, and frappuccinos and iced coffees are available for mid-day refreshment. Choose from hot chocolates, mochaccinos, and cappuccinos to reward yourself after a long day. From flavored coffees and cafe lattes to teas and ciders, the menu on the wall has it all. An enticing selection of muffins, biscotti, and pastries also tempts taste buds.

EDWARDS. Francophiles heap high praise at the door of this friendly, café-style eatery, located in Edwards' Riverwalk area just across from the theater. Whether it's morning fare and gourmet coffee you crave or a cozy setting in which to enjoy a pre-show meal of beef burgundy, Parmesan and sun-dried tomato polenta, or pan-seared steak au poivre, you're sure to find something to suit your palate no matter how discriminating it purports to be. Of course, you'll want to save room for one their homemade desserts, as they truly distinguish French Press from all the pretenders. Reservations are encouraged but not required.

BEAVER CREEK. Open daily for breakfast, the Charter's Terrace Restaurant is as good a place as any to "fuel up" before hitting the slopes. Indeed, the comfortable restaurant sees to morning appetites with a full buffet spread that features scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, apple wood-smoked bacon, fresh-baked pastries, and fresh fruit. During the summer season, seating is available on their outdoor patio. Reservations are not required.
