BEAVER CREEK. Terrific for beginning and intermediate skiers, Arrowhead doesn't experience the large crowd issues that some of its big brothers elsewhere on the mountain have. However, that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy yourself on the 12 runs here at 7400 feet. The slopes also feature a ski lift, the Arrow Bahn. At the close of the day, the popular Broken Arrow Café, located at the base of Arrowhead, is as good a place as any for a bite to eat, a few brews, and some war tales.

BEAVER CREEK. Offering a solid combination of beginner and intermediate-caliber trails, Bachelor Gulch (base elevation: 8,100 feet) is part of Beaver Creek's unique village-to-village-to-village ski potential, connecting as it does to the neighboring slopes of Beaver Creek proper as well as Arrowhead. The runs, of which there are 25, are accompanied by four lifts and a variety of diversions, most of them affiliated with the majestic Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch, a luxurious resort hotel that boasts a number of dining and après-ski options. The Bachelor Gulch Express high-speed quad lift buzzes skiers straight to Beaver Creek.

BEAVER CREEK. Beaver Creek has come into its own in recent years and now boasts runs and terrain that compare very favorably to those of its older sibling, Vail. By the numbers, what folks will find on the mountain are more than 100 trails, 11 lifts, 2 bowls, a base elevation of 8100, and a summit of more than 11,400. But what truly makes Beaver Creek so popular is that its slopes are less crowded than those at Vail and its skiable terrain allows free movement between three distinct villages: Arrowhead, Bachelor Gulch, and of course, Beaver Creek.

BEAVER CREEK. Known far and wide as THE place to enjoy hassle-free cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, McCoy Park features nearly 20 square miles of dedicated land covered by trails ranging from intermediate to advanced levels of difficulty. The fastest (and most scenic) route to McCoy Park is via Lift Two, the Strawberry Park Express. Lessons, equipment rentals, and guides are available through the Beaver Creek Nordic Sports Center, which is headquartered at the entrance to the park.
