1. Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine

BECKLEY.   The town of Beckley has a long history of industrial development, notably in coal and energy producing. The local mines have been restored as they were at the turn of the 20th century and provide a glimpse into the history of the town and the region. Visitors to the mine in the New River Park are transported under the earth in "man cars" and enjoy the sights and sounds of a once fully functioning mine. The mine and park are listed on the National Register and tour guides, once mine workers themselves, present a surplus of information. The Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia is also located here.   (© 10Best)

my opinion i visted the coal mine in august 2009...with much disspointment. this was my third trip...the new buliding was not as informative as the old display. with only a few pictures of about 500 men on each picture. the old set up was very personal and it showed more love because there were different settings of people and pictures. i sent a picture of my father and others who were on a parametic team winning first prize, i dont know what happened to that, even though i was promised it would be displayed. the ride through was good and i did enjoy that. but i wont go there again......
