BECKLEY. The town of Beckley has a long history of industrial development, notably in coal and energy producing. The local mines have been restored as they were at the turn of the 20th century and provide a glimpse into the history of the town and the region. Visitors to the mine in the New River Park are transported under the earth in "man cars" and enjoy the sights and sounds of a once fully functioning mine. The mine and park are listed on the National Register and tour guides, once mine workers themselves, present a surplus of information. The Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia is also located here.
