Rain or shine, indoors or out, Belize City offers something for everyone when it comes to leisure time. Belize City is blessed with several excellent museums and cultural centers, thanks to the largesse of Baron Bliss. This member of Portuguese royalty became seriously ill during his sea voyage to Belize. Upon arrival, Belizean fishermen cared for the sickly baron. He died after a two-month illness, but Baron Bliss gifted Belize City with a $2 million trust that is used for civic projects. Many visitors come to Belize to learn about the flora and fauna. Belize City is the perfect jumping off point for diving tours of Belize's reefs, and trips into the jungle to explore Mayan ruins, to look for exotic birds or to spot black howler monkeys. -- Kelly Boland, Contributing Writer
