8. Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

BELMOPAN.   This unique environmental center offers courses in tropical ecology and conservation. The 1070-acre site is home to tapirs, pumas, jaguars, numerous bird species, crocodiles and, yes, a few monkeys. Extended-stay volunteer and internship opportunities are available. Though it is mainly designed for groups, individual naturalists are welcome to check out the library and see if any canoe excursions are available.   (© 10Best)
