3. Caye Caulker

Only 40 minutes by boat from downtown Belize City, Caye Caulker is a mellow little island, with all the standard budget travel amenities on a tiny Caribbean island with a world class reef just offshore. The island is four miles from north to south but the developed and inhabited part is only a mile long, from the Split to the airstrip. Commercial fishing is still very important on Caye Caulker, supplying most of San Pedro's lobsters. Take an early-morning boat (Caye Caulker Water Taxi 501-223-5752) and walk the island's beach village, then return to Belize City in time for dinner.   (© 10Best)
