FORT GEORGE. Located on the north bank of Haulover Creek, amid Belize City's scenic Fort George district, "Tourism Village" is the brightly painted, air conditioned arrival port for 800,000 cruise ship visitors per year. The small complex, built like a mini-mall on the water's edge, encompasses a cluster of high-end shops and volume-oriented restaurants and bars. You'll find pretty standard cruise market fare: jewelry, T-shirts, shells, booze, cigars, plus a smattering of authentic Belizean crafts and souvenirs. Plenty of services, like Internet, car rental kiosk and currency exchange. On cruise days, look for live music on the dock-side of the "village" (think James Taylor and Jimmy Buffet on steel drums).
