8. Northwest Kidney Centers Open House

The Buzz -- Northwest Kidney Centers will hold a free open house at its new state-of-the-art Seattle Kidney Center. The public is invited to enjoy tours, refreshments and a kidney-healthy cooking demonstration. A brief program begins at 1:30 p.m. Complimentary parking for the event is available in the Swedish Medical Center/Cherry Hill campus garage (511 16th Ave.), courtesy of the Sabey Corp. The facility will provide 50,000 dialysis treatments per year to sustain the lives of people with kidney failure. Treatments take place in a community dialysis center, for patients who can sit for their four-hour, three-times-a-week dialysis sessions; or in a “special care unit” for patients whose condition requires a more intensive level of nursing and support services, and who must dialyze in a bed; or in an isolation room for those with a communicable illness. The building also includes training areas for patients learning to give themselves dialysis at home.
