12. Cascadian Chorale presents "Draw On, Sweet Night"

The Buzz -- “Draw On, Sweet Night” is a choral interpretation of the arrival of nightfall, the quiet of evening, the dreams of sleep, and the start of a new day. This wistful journey enlists music from 1609 through 2009, traversing styles from English Renaissance madrigal, German folksong, French impressionist, American romantic, to Post-war modernist. Works will be performed in English, Hungarian, French, and German. Some concert highlights include: Samuel Barber’s captivating modern classic “Sure on this shining night,” Eric Whitacre’s ethereal dreamscape “Sleep,” Henk Badings’ lighthearted "Soir d'été" [Summer evening], and Lili Boulanger’s haunting "Soir sur la plaine” [Evening on the Plain], which features soprano Barb Fraley and pianist Jerrod Wendland. In addition, John David Earnest’s inventive and rollicking "My Papa's Waltz" will be performed in concert for only the second time. Mr. Earnest is currently a composer-in-residence and visiting professor at Whitman College, Walla Walla.
