BELLEVUE. This open, window-lined cafe attracts a steady stream of customers. Shoppers, professionals, retirees, and families all attend, and the menu appeals to everyone. Dinner classics are available, along with huge omelets made with five large eggs and topped with cheese, vegetables, and chili. Also recommended are Mexican eggs, piled high with chiles, onion, cheddar, and salsa and served on a tortilla. Fluffy biscuits are also a hit, and breakfast is served all day.

BELLEVUE. This simple, elegant bistro offers an appealing mix of American favorites with a menu showing influences from France, Italy, and South America. The minimal décor is serene and upscale with white tablecloths, neutral colors, and candlelight. Start with a bottle of wine from a list of more than 100, and then try an entrée such as roast duck with cranberry sauce and veal sirloin in wild mushroom sauce. The dessert selection changes daily, but look for the highly recommended pecan pie. Reservations recommended.

BELLEVUE. You can't miss this restaurant, thanks to its front-and-center location on Bellevue's main artery, right next to the Village Theater. The decor stands out, too, with high ceilings, exposed brick, and thick velvet curtains reminiscent of a theater draped around the windows. The menu focuses on seafood, with options such as macadamia-encrusted halibut, sautéed scallops, and penne with salmon in garlic cream. There are also vegetarian options and a home-style spinach-stuffed meatloaf.

Don't be misled by JaK's ordinary exterior – it gives way to a cozy space where top-quality steaks are served nightly. Appetizers are considered extraneous here; jump right to entrees like a bone-on prime Delmonico, New York strip, or filet mignon, all dry-aged for 28 days and seasoned to perfection. Seafood, chicken, and pork dishes are also on offer. Touches like skin-on garlic mashed potatoes and a signature steak butter (infused with parmesan cheese, parsley, and Worcestershire sauce) add great texture and flavor.

BELLEVUE. Whether it's rare or well-done, prime beef is this steak house's trademark. A favorite of the business set, the place exudes class with its soft, rich carpets and paneled private rooms. Each sublime cut of meat boasts sensational flavor and texture thanks to a signature "cooked from the top down" technique. À la carte items include gulf shrimp in creole rémoulade sauce and crispy French-fried onion rings. If you make it to dessert, consider a luscious chocolate praline encore or maybe chocolate chunk bread pudding.

BELLEVUE. Emphasizing seafood from the Puget Sound and the Pacific Northwest, this innovative, upscale restaurant is one of the best reasons to make a short trip east to Bellevue. Featured main dishes include Columbia River white sturgeon with huckleberry beurre blanc, applewood-grilled swordfish with artichoke and capers, and cedar plank-roasted Alaskan king crab with fresh vegetables. For patrons with something more casual in mind, the raw bar serves some of the area's best shucked oysters.

This restaurant and bar are a cozy pair, animated by warm reds and yellows, a bit of leopard print, and plenty of polished wood. While the place is famous for its selection of 160 beers on tap (70% are Northwestern microbrews), it also turns out tasty eats, including steaks and sushi. Flavor-packed hot sandwiches and cool, crisp salads cater to lunchtime appetites while dinner fare ranges from grilled garlic prawns and baby back ribs to champagne chicken and beef-and-Guinness stew.

Contemporary decor with Southwestern flair enlivens this restaurant and bar, bringing a dose of sunny, sunbaked flavor to the Northwest. As satisfying for an after-work meal with colleagues as for a family dinner, the place issues a warm welcome with complimentary hot cornbread. It's a savory introduction to grilled chipotle beef tenderloin, wild mushroom enchiladas, or diablo chicken pasta. Pork medallions stuffed with chorizo and poblanos and served with roasted garlic cream sauce are also a delight. Gluten-free items are highlighted for convenience.
