Though the restaurant is a bit difficult to find, lunch at Dixie's is worth the effort. Locals recommend the fun establishment for its unique atmosphere and great down-home meats topped with fiery sauces. Try smoked chicken, tender ribs, or a brisket sandwich – if you're feeling adventurous, ask for a dose of "The Man," a five-alarm sauce that will definitely kick things up a notch. Sweet tea and great sides complete the meal.

BELLEVUE. You can't miss this restaurant, thanks to its front-and-center location on Bellevue's main artery, right next to the Village Theater. The decor stands out, too, with high ceilings, exposed brick, and thick velvet curtains reminiscent of a theater draped around the windows. The menu focuses on seafood, with options such as macadamia-encrusted halibut, sautéed scallops, and penne with salmon in garlic cream. There are also vegetarian options and a home-style spinach-stuffed meatloaf.

BELLEVUE. Experience the warmth of Tuscany – inside a mall? Believe it or not, terra cotta floors, warm yellow walls, and rustic touches make you forget you're inside a retail emporium. The menu evokes bella Tuscany as well, focusing on grilled meats, thin-crust pizzas, and fresh pastas topped with sun-dried tomatoes and gorgonzola. Also excellent are fish dishes, including red snapper with tomatoes and olives. The wine list is extensive.

This deli's hefty menu features appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and specialty items like potato latkes and cheese blintzes. While breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served, the midday meal really pulls in crowds. Start with a bowl of matzo ball soup, and then progress to a classic reuben or a West Side Story (corned beef, lettuce, tomato, and dressing on toast). If you're really in a rush, Goldbergs' offers call-ahead curbside carryout service from the deli.

Noted for serving some of the best lunchtime dim sum east of the International District, Noble Court is a godsend when it comes to lunch options in Bellevue. The neon-heavy decor in no way anticipates the quality of the Cantonese-heavy menu. Featured dishes range from sautéed Szechuan-style prawns to General Tso's chicken, orange sesame beef, seafood hot pots, stir-fried clams and black beans, and steamed salmon filet. Wednesdays through Saturdays, Noble Court features live entertainment.

BELLEVUE. This fashionable Chinese bistro gets high marks with Seattle's trendier diners, who adore the contemporary interior and eclectic menu. Start with do-it-yourself lettuce wraps – these alone are worth the trip. Afterwards, go any route you like, from Szechwan to Hunan, Cantonese to Shanghai. Chang's daily specials are always worth considering – keep your fingers crossed that they include Szechwan shrimp or pan-fried noodles.

WATERFRONT. Quick, simple Frankfurter is the perfect stop when you need a satisfying lunch in a hurry. Housed in the food court at Crossroads Mall, the place offers every kind of hot dog imaginable, including spicy Italian sausages, kosher dogs, and even a low-fat Thai chicken dog. If you aren't in the mood for such fare, try excellent Black Forest lentil soup or a cup of chili, and don't forget the famous, extra-sweet lemonade.
