MITTE. Museum closed until October 2009 for renovations. Housed in a contemporary white building, this museum is dedicated to the designs of the talented artists of the Bauhaus school. Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus school, hired a group of well-known artists to teach in his school. Today, exhibits display the various items that were created from this modern movement between 1919 and 1932 (when the Nazis put a stop to the group's progression). Objects showcased include furniture, sculpture, ceramics, and architecture by such famous names as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Vassily Kandinsky, and Gropius himself.
