MITTE.   This lovely French restaurant with German influences is a great place for a light lunch or a full meal. The seasonal menu features such entrées as oysters and lobster. The interesting ambience and first-rate service make this a perfect choice for a business lunch. U-BAHN: Friedrichstrasse   (© 10Best)

This cafe is excellent. The best of old and new Berlin! When I was a student at the Goethe Institut, I ate here several times a week, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was here that I invited my Berlin landlady and my speaking partner and his wife to say thank you for all the kindnesses they showered on me. The noon time specials are exceptionally reasonable but elegant and tasty, for example, calf's liver with apple and onions(Berliner style) or blutwurst with apples and walnuts. The service is aimable, much more attentive and courteous than in most Berlin eating places, but best of all the Bauhaus- Deco style and it's location on Unter den Linden can't be beaten for ambience. Dressler is the only place to celebrate the German national holiday on October 3. With good weather that day, you can enjoy a white linen lunch on the sidewalk terrace. Make sure you visit the sleek washrooms which are accessed by a Deco-style stairway that is lined with constructivist paintings. There is also a Cafe Dressler on the Kurfurstendamm von Gerhard der verruckte Kanadier

When in Berlin...do as the French do? It is a well known fact that the German's enjoy their pastries as do the French especially when it comes to a delicious pastry and a great cup of coffee. While sightseeing in Berlin, my husband and I stumbled upon the Dressler where we decided to escape for just a moment and have our afternoon German Plum Cake (Zwetschgenkuchen) and coffee. We were immediately taken with the quaintness of this restaurant and the authentic, timeless atmosphere. I must say, the cake was luscious, the coffee superb, the bill was meager, and the service impeccable. We will definitely visit the Dressler on our next visit to Berlin. If you are in the area, stop in…if only for a cup of coffee. You will be glad you did. Bon Appetit and Cheers!
