MITTE.   Although the locals thought it'd never be finished, the renovation of Alexanderplatz is just about complete. The Galeria Kaufhof department store looks rejuvenated, and perhaps it's because of the competition – just across the way now lies the new Alexa shopping mall, home to 54,000 square-meters of fashion retailers, book stores and specialty shops. The people-watching factor is good too; on any given day, this bustling platz is filled with punks, shoppers, street vendors and the pace of people in transit.
