TREPTOW - KÖPENICK. Known as an escape route for East Berliners, this lake is now a popular recreation spot. Located east of the city, its lakeside paths offer a scenic view of city meets country.
STEGLITZ - ZEHLENDORF. From lakeside spots to sandy beaches, this is a favorite with the locals. The two lakes, the Grosser Wannsee and the Kleiner Wannsee, provide all kinds of water recreation. Known as Berlin's Riviera, the lakeside property is expansive, and the shops and restaurants along the shore are worth a stop.
LICHTENBERG. Located on the grounds of a restored palace, this is the city's smaller zoo. Planned walkways offer good views, and although it is not as big as the zoo on the Westside, this facility does boast a larger animal population. U-BAHN: Tierpark
MITTE. Berlin's largest zoo houses more species, from wild to domesticated animals, than any other zoo worldwide. You can enjoy seeing panda bears and various insects, as well as many marine animals in the adjacent aquarium. Be sure to schedule enough time to enjoy the trip. S-BAHN: Zoologischer Garten
