9. Waipi'o Valley

WAIPIO.   In the Hawaiian language, Waipi'o signifies "curved water," a meaning that stems from the beautiful river that runs through this valley on Big Island. Activities are abundant here, with lookout points along the southern wall, a black sand beach for avid surfers, and towering waterfalls flanking each side of the valley. If you're interesting in touring this Big Island valley, be sure to wear your hiking boots or drive a four-wheel drive vehicle – the road down is pretty steep!   (© 10Best)
