KOHALA COAST.
Set the alarm and take a journey to the end of scenic Highway 270 to witness the gorgeous sea cliffs of the Kohala coastline. Big Island parks and attractions just don't compare to the scenery at these lookout areas. The land has been sparsely populated because of fear of tsunamis, leaving it au naturale and breathtaking. If you don't mind a little exercise, hike down to the black sand beach and catch your breath for a little while at the base of this Big Island adventure spot.

Breathtaking, powerful, beautiful... bring a thesaurus. For those of us city dwellers, a remote black sand beach attacked by forceful surf, nestled among sheer cliffs is not your 9 to 5. The hike down is easy, the hike back up exhausting but worth it. It's hard to describe the visual mixing of mist hitting the cliffs, the green valley behind the beach, the blue sky, white caps and black sand but I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get off the proverbial beaten path.
