SOUTH KONA COAST.   The Pu'uhonua O Honaunau is perhaps one of the most unique, and most sacred, Hawaii museums you can find. The 180-acre site was a sanctuary for ancient Hawaiians who’d received death sentences for trespassing or eating forbidden food, for once they stepped foot inside these hallowed grounds, their lives would be spared by the priests. This Honaunau attraction is a stunning place to visit, and the 180-acre site has much to see, including koi ponds, 18th century canoe replicas, original gamestone checker boards, and a reconstructed temple, all made from the natural resources of the land.   (© 10Best)
