An affordable alternative for those visiting the Big Island on a budget, this cozy downtown hotel features 13 rooms, four 1-bedroom suites, and one 2-bedroom suite; all are furnished with a kitchenette and private lanai. The home is surrounded by beautiful gardens whose exotic flora ranges from plumeria and orchids to birds of paradise and indigenous Hawaiian ferns. Local attractions, including Keaukaha Beach and Lyman House Museum, are within relatively easy walking distance.

HILO. This high-rise hotel has lost little of its '60s style, and its contemporary white facade looks out commandingly from a Hilo Bay perch. Standard room amenities include air conditioning, in-room safe, coffee maker, hair dryer, and refrigerator. Facilities include two swimming pools, a nine-hole golf course, two restaurants, guest laundry room, a gift shop, and a spa and salon. Event space to accommodate 400. 325 rooms and suites.

HILO. As you might anticipate, this attractive hotel offers comfortable rooms just a stone's throw from the water – Hilo Bay to be exact. Each of the 145 rooms boasts private lanai with views of a koi pond or the outdoor pool, cable television, mini-refrigerator, and ceiling fan. Facilities include guest laundry room, a restaurant, the swimming pool and a beautiful, white sand beach. Conference/meeting space to 100 is available.

HILO. Affordable yet convenient to all the action, Uncle Billy's Hilo Bay Hotel is tucked away on scenic Banyan Drive, so named for its dense canopy of eponymous trees. The setting is ideal for those who enjoy taking in nature – a myriad of waterfalls, volcanoes, rain forests, and black sand beaches – as well as those with more urban interests (Hilo's shopping and dining scenes are but a short drive away). Comfortable and unpretentious, the hotel features 145 guest rooms, each of which includes cable television, private lanai, and climate control. Conference/meeting space to 50.

Nearby, guests will find a variety of activities, from shopping to sightseeing and horseback riding, around the Mauna Kea foothills. 21 rooms.
