Prehistoric hunters who camped in Pictograph Cave left behind over 100 pictographs, or rock paintings; however, many have faded or disappeared because of erosion, water seepage, and vandalism. A one-half mile interpretive trail leads to Pictograph Cave, passes Middle and Ghost Caves, and loops back to the picnic and parking areas. Binoculars are recommended to best see the rock art and also, to enjoy the area's wildlife, birds and spectacular scenery. Visitors should be aware of natural hazards, including rock fall and rattlesnakes but these hazards are very minimal. A visitor center, with interpretive displays, gift shop, etc. is "in the works" and scheduled to open in 2009.
