BILOXI. Once the home of the only President of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis, Beauvoir tells the story of the South's secession from the Union and Davis's pivotal role in history. Wander through the restored antebellum home where he wrote his memoirs and the beautifully landscaped grounds which include a rose garden, a veterans' cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Soldier. (© 10Best) The Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library, nearly demolished by Hurricane Katrina, reopened June 3, 2008. Some parts of the site, including the Confederate Soldiers Museum, were destroyed and will remain closed. Even now, the museum’s curator is accepting donations to help finish the restoration.
