BILOXI. George Ohr is something of a local hero in Biloxi, as much for his wild stunts and his unique persona as for his groundbreaking works of pottery. This museum offers an extensive permanent display of his works, along with a personal history that makes it clear why he is called the "Mad Potter of Biloxi." He called himself the Apostle of Individuality, and was known to tell people, "I'm the greatest potter on earth. YOU prove the contrary!" before riding off on his motorcycle, his long moustache tucked behind his ears. His odd twisting pottery pieces, painted with vivid shades, are the highlights here, though other great exhibits include a contemporary art section and a temporary gallery devoted to local works.
