10. Mudtown Eat & Drink

CAHABA HEIGHTS.   Don't let the name disarm you – it's merely homage to the Creek Indians, who named the swampy east bank of the Cahaba "Mudtown." In fact, this calm, comfortable spot is one of the best places in town to feel (and feed) like a native. The friendly staff, the homestyle cooking, and the tasty drinks all see to that. There are sandwiches and burgers for folks craving those, as well as heartier temptations like Deep South fish and grits, breaded Merkle Masa catfish with sour cream sauce and black bean salsa, and 8-oz. beef filet with bacon-smashed potatoes.   (© 10Best)
