BISMARCK. Visit Bismarck's picturesque downtown area, where you'll find an old-fashioned scene that is reminiscent of quintessential Main Street, USA. Historic old buildings house small, locally owned boutique shops, art galleries, antique stores, and the like, and the visitors will also be happy to find that a handful of bars and restaurants are situated downtown as well.

A 19th-century boom town whose earliest days benefited greatly from the shipping and warehouse industries, Mandan now offers a distinctly old-fashioned main drag that is as noteworthy for its cowboy bars, Western-themed shops, and Native American galleries as it is for its friendly cafes.

Those looking to spend some time watching the latest Hollywood hit should plan to head in the direction of Gateway's eight-screen movie theater. The mall is also home to Gateway to Science, an organization dedicated to teaching kids (and adults) about science, the environment, and conservation.
