Children's Discovery Museum of Illinois

NORMAL. Children will learn while having a blast with three floors of hands-on exhibits. Examples of activities include the museum's Grocery Store, Kid's Medical Center, and the Sugar Creek Water Table, and Masterpiece Paint Wall.

Clover Lawn

Dotted with sugar maples and fruit trees, the Clover Lawn estate is a treat for the eyes. Four original buildings dating from the 1800s still stand on this once-working farm, including a carriage barn (1868), foaling shed (1872), stable (1856), and the woodhouse (1872), designed by Piquenard, which housed the privies used by farmhands. Colorful gardens and ornamental plantings show their beauty here, especially during the spring and summer months.

Ecology Action Center

As Normal's first environmental education resource, the center offers visitors a chance to learn and understand more about nature, recycling, composting and saving energy. Open only on weekday afternoons, the center also provides classes, workshops and nature walks to the local community.

Funk Gem and Mineral Museum

The Hall of Gems and Minerals is the highlight of this unique museum in Shirley, Illinois. Precious stones are on display as well as fossils and Native American artifacts. The Museum is located in the historic Funk Prairie Home.

Illinois State University Planetarium

NORMAL. You will believe you are gazing at the sky filled with bright stars on a clear summer night in this round theater. Learn more about astronomy in a captivating scenario. Watch galaxies and see black holes produced by sophisticated special effects. Presentations last about 60 minutes. Show dates and times might vary depending on the timing of celestial events.

JT and EJ Crumbaugh Museum

Located in the Crumbaugh Library, this museum displays rooms as they were in 1895, including a child's room with bed and toys. Another exhibit displays an antique typewriter, radio and other communication tools used in the 1800s.

McLean County Museum of History

Located in an old courthouse which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum features various exhibits throughout the year, including a collection of pictures depicting farm life in Illinois. Tours offered by reservation. The courtroom is available by reservation for business meetings.

Prairie Aviation Museum

BLOOMINGTON. Feed your interest in aviation and space by visiting this informative museum, whose artifacts and memorabilia give folks an up-close glimpse at air travel and technology. In addition, a flight simulator takes visitors on a "fly over" tour of Bloomington and other destinations. The actual aircraft on display, restored and gleaming, include an F-4N Phantom, a T-38A Talon, an F-14D Tomcat, and a UH-IH Huey.

Rike House Museum

Reservations are required when visiting this historic house, built in 1853 and once owned by blacksmith Robert Ingle. The restored structure features antiques, among them the original fireplace and Leroy's first piano.
