NORMAL. Boasting the largest steaks in town, Alexander's offers a variety of cuts such as filet, rib eye, t-bone and top sirloin. Other choices offered are chicken, pork and seafood, such as the succulent lobster tails that are featured at market price. For beef with a twist, try a steak kabob or teriyaki and for those that are finicky about their steaks, you can be the chef if you choose to be. Cook your own steak on the large pits right inside the restaurant. A decadent dessert, such as the skillet chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream, hot fudge, whip cream and toasted almonds, could be a great finishing touch!

Located in Colonial Plaza in the shopping district, this restaurant is a favorite with locals for pizza. Pies are made with a variety of ingredients and are cooked to order. Another choice would be the lunch and dinner buffets that feature a salad bar. Fried appetizers, sandwiches, and pasta are also on the menu.

The sauce and pizza dough are made fresh daily at this local family-owned pizza place. Make your own combination of toppings or try one of their specialties, such as Cajun Deluxe (hot sausage, shrimp, onions, Jalapeño peppers and cheddar cheese), or Chicken Deluxe (chicken, barbecue sauce and cheddar cheese). Thin crust or pan, you will enjoy Micheleo's pizza!

BLOOMINGTON. If you're looking for moderately priced, authentic Mexican fare, this is the place. Fiesta Ranchera offers a very large menu of affordable items. Specialties include Mexican-style steaks, combination platters, desserts and imported Mexican beers. The service is friendly and fast in this local favorite.

BLOOMINGTON. Huge crystal chandeliers light the way in this large, clubby restaurant. Diners are separated in rooms on different levels, each featuring a working fireplace and oil paintings. Start off with a generous salad topped with homemade blue cheese dressing, and work your way to a great slab of steak, grilled to perfection. Entrees come with salad, baked potato or rice, and hot bread and butter. Great selection of seafood and chicken specialties. Live pianist performs Tue-Sat evenings.

You easily will find Elroy's in its huge downtown corner location, flanked with green awnings. Large booths are scattered thoughout, surrounding a circular bar with stools. The pub serves a quick and tasty lunch to a packed house most days, featuring pork tenderloin, grilled pork chop, omelets, pizza and other choices.

NORMAL. Don't be fooled by the sparse decorations in this local coffee house – the exotic coffee selection is impressive. Supplied with great equipment for making lattes and espressos, the restaurant also houses a bakery, where pastries, cookies, cakes and other delights are prepared. For a "real" breakfast, one might order two scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and two slices of toast ; or opt for a vegetarian sausage patty along with oatmeal-buttermilk buckwheat pancakes. Make no mistake – the Coffeehouse provides delicious gourmet breakfast meals.

Hungry? Do you like heaps of steaming pasta, such as spaghetti and meat sauce or cheese-filled tortellini? Then, La Gondola should be your destination. A favorite of many area college students because of the cheap prices and huge portions, the restaurant features hot sandwiches, such as a Hot Sicilian, topped with pizza sauce, salami and cheese then baked, as well as pasta specialties and salads. Dinners come with pasta, salad and garlic bread. A special selection for children is available which includes spaghetti, ravioli and torellini.

BLOOMINGTON. Italian tile floors and textured stucco walls greet guests who dine here. The tall ceilings are flanked with exposed wooden beams, yet the decor is very elegant making it an appropriate choice for informal dining during the week to a special occasion on the weekend. Many Italian specialties are served here, among them being pizza. Served in 9 inch individual pie sizes, the gourmet Italian specialties include Chicken Piccante, a spicy roast chicken with smoked bacon, leeks and goat cheese; Quattro Formaggi, a white pizza with a blend of four cheeses; and the Margherita, a traditional pie with tomato sauce, mozzarella and fresh basil. Other specialties are cappellini di mare,angel-hair pasta topped with shrimp and calamari in a red Italian sauce and mushroom lasagna.
