4. Le China

This restaurant is off the beaten path in Merignac, outside Bordeaux, but it is worth the short drive if you enjoy well-prepared Chinese cuisine. The location on the peaceful tree-lined street supplements the serene ambiance inside, where large floor-to-ceiling windows let diners feel almost as if they are dining al fresco. Recent renovations have left the bold red exterior and muted interior in top condition, and the cooking is wonderful as well: pork with caramel or pineapple, perfect crisp spring rolls, stir fried noodles and vegetables, and excellent desserts such as coconut biscuits.
