7. Madura

Owned by two Indian families, this restaurant is named for a popular area in their native land. The families discovered that authentic southern Indian cuisine was unavailable in Bordeaux, and so they started their own establishment to fill the void. It does so admirably, with spicy curries, vegetable thalis made with eggplant, lentils and yogurt, and Tandori-style grilled lamb, chicken, and salmon. A fun restaurant with an upbeat vibe and delicious, pungent, healthy cuisine. Reservations recommended; casual dress.   (© 10Best)
