About Boston Events
Boston events are as diverse and patriotic as the city itself, and they showcase its longstanding association with education and the arts. The Fourth of July brings people out in droves to celebrate independence at the very place the nation was born. Even the most jaded cynic cant help but feel goose bumps while listening to the acclaimed Boston Pops play Stars and Stripes Forever as fireworks explode over the water along the Esplanade it doesnt get any more American than that. New Years Eve brings another rowdy celebration to the Esplanade, which hosts calmer, family-friendly events all year long, including free outdoor movies on summer Friday nights. For runners or folks who want to toast the endurance of others the Boston Marathon (at more than a century old) has become a signature event for the city. Held in April, it takes 20,000 runners on a tour of Boston while 450,000 onlookers cheer them on. From the St. Patricks Day Parade in the South End home to many people of Irish descent to First Night to Harborfest each June, Bostonians love celebrating their ethnicity, culture, and heritage. -- Kelly Sigmon, Senior Editor
