WATERFRONT.   "If it isn't fresh, it isn't legal" is this restaurant's mantra and they pride themselves on offering only the freshest seafood available. Rich, creamy clam chowder is a specialty, and the raw bar fare enjoys its share of devotees. You'll also find wood-grilled swordfish, fried oysters, and a great cioppino. Daily and seasonal specials abound, and fresh Maine lobsters are cracked tableside on request. A Boston institution since 1968, Legal has seven locations in the immediate area alone, but the one at Long Wharf is particularly impressive, thanks to its outdoor dining area and awesome views of the harbor.   (© 10Best)

The debate about who makes Boston's best clam chowder continues, although locals agree that tomatoes have no place in it. (For that, head to Rhode Island or New York). Legal Sea Foods serves a light version that's broth-based instead of creamy, and chock-full of clams and potatoes. How light? About 70 calories per serving (compared to 300 for Legal's traditional chowder) with near zero fat. (from Southern Living)

Legal Seafoods Test Kitchen at Seaport was a disaster tonight. We looked at open table and many complaints about service and finding things in your food. Tonight was no exception to these stories. My partner and I were first shown around to 3 tables. Trust me the menu's are larger than the tables they set you. We both ordered the mixed grill special, steak tips, scallops and shrimp served with scalloped potatoes and stewed tomatoes. Both entrees arrived at our table without the shrimp or scallops and then to top it off we found plastic wrap in both of our scalloped potato sides. We brought this to the attention of a manager Tullua? She did comp one entree, however we both had plastic wrap in our sides. We both ordered the pumpkin creme brule and they brought it to us in a huge bowel. It tasted like pumpkin oatmeal and the top which should be crunch was rubbery and nasty. The texture was that of oatmeal. If your thinking about the Test Kitchen, try somewhere else. They obviously need more guinee pigs to test more nasty food on. Dont waste your money or your time. Service is slow, tables are small and the food is not far from that of dog food.
