Overview
Brighton is situated along England's south coast next to Hove, Eastbourne, and Hastings. Once a tiny fishing village, Brighton has earned a reputation as a hip, somewhat bohemian resort town. Students at the two universities in the area – Brighton and the University of Sussex at Brighton – give the city a youthful vitality. The economy is fueled primarily by tourism, as well as a strong convention industry that flourishes at the massive Brighton Conference Center. In addition to the usual coastal attractions, vacationers are drawn to the city's Georgian architecture, trendy shops, and fine restaurants. Brighton also boasts a healthy cultural scene, which is capped off by the annual Brighton Arts Festival each May. Points of interest also include the Edwardian Preston Manor, the ornate Royal Pavilion, the engaging Sea Life Center, and a variety of museums and art galleries.
