This award-winning museum charts the rise and fall of one of the largest empires the world has ever known. Suitable for both adults and children, the main exhibition is thoroughly modern in its approach, taking an honest look at the experiences of both the ruler and the ruled. Allow around 2-3 hours to take in this dramatic 500 year story, and look out for a new exhibition, 'Breaking the Chains,' opening in Spring 2007. This will be dedicated to presenting the history of the transatlantic slave trade (once very active in Bristol) and the fight to abolish it precisely 200 years ago. The Museum is open everyday from 10am to 5pm and all paying visitors can get an unlimited pass to return for free within 12 months. Excellent value and well worth a visit!
