More about Bristol
Bristol exudes prosperity. Indeed, the economy of the largest, most dynamic city in the West Country is bolstered by the thriving British Aerospace industry, as well as Rolls-Royce. Before all that, however, Bristol was a seafaring town. Located on the Avon and Frome Rivers, which flow into the Severn, the city was once a thriving maritime port and was second only to London. The excellent Maritime Heritage Center chronicles this former glory, as well as the city's history of shipbuilding. Bristol's most famous attractions are the magnificent Clifton Suspension Bridge and the SS Great Britain ship, both designed by local legend Isambard Kingdom Brunel. As for nearby sites, tourists should visit the infamous Berkely Castle, the beach at Clevedon, the historic Dyrham Park, and the popular Weston-Super-Mare resort.
