EDITOR REVIEW: While in Brookfield, be sure to plan a trip to the Sheffield Island Lighthouse, one of the many majestic and historical lighthouses of New England. The lighthouse was activated in 1868 and remained active for 34 years until its retirement in 1902. The island also includes an outstanding nature trail developed as a joint effort between the Seaport Association and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. The trail and its viewing platform provide the ideal spot for bird watching. You can reach the island by ferry boat. Boats depart from the Seaport Dock located next to Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium. Call 203-838-9444 for details. |
