About Brussels Events
Visitors to Brussels would have to carefully plan if they wanted to avoid all of the citys various festivals but why would they? The European Christmas Market continues from the holidays into early January, while in February, animators from around the world flock to the Festivan du Dessin Anime, an Oscars for the cartoon set. Movie folks are back in April, when the Brussels European Film Festival showcases first movies from up-and-coming talents. April also sees the revival of the Grand-Place light and music show, which is held every evening through September. In May, the music-loving city kicks off its first concert series, and venues around Brussels join in the Jazz Marathon. Junes Summer Festival features more traditional, classical music. One of the most popular festivals, the Ommegang street carnival, is held each July, and every other August the Flower Carpet covers the Grand-Place. In addition, the Europalia Festival runs from October through February. In it, a different country serves as the theme each year, and its plays, music, dance, art, and folk culture are celebrated throughout the city.
