DOWNTOWN.
With a bistro ambiance, this restaurant offers interesting combinations of Asian, Italian, and American dishes. The cuisine is creative and features items like grilled fresh calves liver with caramelized onions, jambalaya pasta with Gulf shrimp, and pepper-crusted tenderloin with brandy cream sauce. Attire is casually elegant, and reservations are recommended.

A Disappointment
Noise an ear shattering maybe 120db. I had a barley acceptable $34 Rib Steak (meat source obviously outstanding high quality) and Frits that were under the kitchen heat lamp too long. The frits were a very small portion and came with a surprise portion of string beans. Frits met MacDonnell’s minimum quality, again too long under the heat lamp. After 30 dinners and 15 lunches over the past six weeks, we found only outstanding restaurants in Buffalo, but the editors are wrong on this one. (Only Three of our of maybe 20 on our list are on the editors list and all three ranked lower then the editor’s Hutch’s #2.) At Hutch’s, Appetizers, deserts, wines, string beans & Martini were commendable.

I think that the staff at Hutch's needs to look up the definition of the words reservation and service. I had a 7:15 reservation after gently reminding the hostess at 7:45 and after she had seated 2 other couples who walked in after us that we were still waiting she did offer and apology and a free appetizer. Well the appetizer never came and fifteen minutes later we were finally seated by a now rude and aloof hostess. Service was terrible and it was good thing I was sitting next to the water pitcher so i was able to serve myself. At the end of the meal a free dessert was offered with no apology or explanation, but by that time not even double chocolate cake could get the bitter taste out of my mouth.

This was an amazing experience! We just happened upon this little restaurant and were pleasantly surprised! The portions were generous. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. The Bisque is a must if you are in the mood for seafood and the NY Strip was the finest I have ever eaten.
At the end of our meal we found out that they were recently voted the Best Restaurant in Western NY! I concur!
