More about Buford

Historic Buford, established in 1872, offers the charm of small town living just 30 miles from the bustle of Atlanta. Named for Col. A.S.Buford, a railroad president, the town, which straddles Gwinnett and Hall
counties, was once known for farming and leather making. More recently, city dwellers have begun to flock to this former farmland, creating a burgeoning
circle of family oriented communities around the recently revived downtown area. In the pedestrian-friendly town center, European fusion restaurants
and hot jazz clubs mingle easily with antique shops, art galleries, brewpubs and historic buildings. Another top draw is Buford's proximity to the water recreation of Lake Lanier, where locals and visitors enjoy boating, fishing, camping and much more. Most visitors are surprised to find that the 38,000-acre body of water was once rolling farmland, and construction didn't begin on the lake until 1950. The lake achieved worldwide notice when it hosted several Olympic watersports events in 1996.
