 EDITOR REVIEW: DOWNTOWN. Upbeat and funky, this Church Street restaurant opened in 1997 with more than a bit of fanfare, and rightly so. With exposed ductwork, cobalt-blue lighting, cafe-style tables, and contemporary artwork, Smokejacks brings Big Apple-style to the downtown area. The menu emphasizes local ingredients – artisan cheeses, herbs, beef, lamb, and eggs – and might include skillet-roasted chicken with chanterelles, grilled cider-glazed salmon, and bourbon and mustard braised pork shank with pumpkin polenta.
