Set in a hundred-year-old home built for a wealthy ranch-owner, this stately restaurant boasts period details and furnishings that befit the era. It has recently been refurbished and is now a magnet for those who desire fabulous food in genteel surroundings. Canadian cuisine is the draw, composed of local game, seafood, duck, and pork. The savory entrees are updates of classic fare, like smoked ahi tuna on wild rice pancakes, braised rabbit lasagna, caribou over wild mushroom ragout, and cedar-roasted duck breast. Everything is expertly prepared and well-presented, including the luscious desserts, made fresh in-house. Perfect for special occasions or anytime you want a superb meal. Less than 20 minutes from downtown.

While I might agree with Howard as to the sparse surroundings, I certainly didn't think it took away from our dining experience. Again I would partially agree that the tables do seem a little close together and I was thankful that our hostess spread its customers out around the spacious dining area, so in our case this wasn't an issue. We did indeed experience the "uncomfortable furniture" but our dining lasted over 2 hours without any discomfort due to the chairs. If this is a concern and you do have a "sensitive" behind, about half the tables have big cushy chairs that should satisfy your needs. I actually prefer to have a little support when I'm sitting for a long period and was glad to have the wood chair rather than the alternative. Now to what really counts, I thought the meal was fantastic, we had the Chef's Selection along with the Wine pairing. It was a fantastic meal, a beautiful presentation and a nice selection of wines. The flow was comfortable and we never felt rushed. The portions were just perfect and we were extremely pleased with the overall menu. We thought it was very reasonably priced and above average value. The service I felt was good but certainly not over the top. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back to enjoy the porch this coming summer.

For a high end restaurant, the ambiance is non-existent at night. From basic bare wood chairs (extremely uncomfortable) and a barely presentable attempt at Christmas decorating (The night we were there) the place was disappointing. ). Duct tape everywhere! Yes, I know it’s country, simple, and all that but please ………. It’s boring! This restaurant survives on the pure joy of the extremely good cuisine and various wild game dishes - VERY expensive but worth every penny. The small room we were seated in presented anything but an intimate dining experience thanks to the exuberance of the guests next to us. Perhaps they hurt as much as I did sitting on the uncomfortable chairs and staring at the blank walls. The only points of interest were the missing paint. The room badly needed (at the very least) a rug, a little local colour, some ranching trivia .. anything to brighten up what was basically an expensive dinner in a bare room on uncomfortable furniture with noisy adjacent tables. Not impressed. I was expecting more. Would I go back? No, and I would not encourage anyone else to go there unless you really don’t care about your surroundings while you dine and pay handsomely for the privilege.
