These commons have maintained their popularity among fans of cricket since Sir Jack Hobbs learned to play the game here. Cambridge acquired the land in 1613 in exchange for the land behind Trinity College. Another reason for this area's vast popularity is because the rules to football (American soccer) were established on these fields.
