St John's College is one of the largest and richest colleges in Cambridge, founded in 1511 by Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry VII. It has around 530 undergraduates and 300 graduate students. You can visit the extensive college grounds, following a tourist path that goes into the chapel, through numerous courts, and over the Bridge of Sighs. The Bridge of Sighs is the only enclosed bridge on the River Cam. Built in 1831, this structure connects the New Court to the original part of St. John's College. It is very ornate, with carved stones that almost resemble the adornment of a wedding cake. It is also very steep.
