The River Cam divides Queen's College into two sections, and this bridge was built to connect the two sides. As the story goes, the bridge's name originated from the initial bridge that was built in 1749. The story states that the first bridge was built without bolts - held together only by mathematical principles and a clever design. Whether this is true or not, the bridge that is there today is in the same style as the original but has bolts in the main joints. Queen's College is a delightful, friendly college to stroll around, in particular the older section. When not in use, you can visit the Old Hall and Chapel as well.
