During the 12th century, this "abbey" was an Augustinian priory. In the 1930s, the building became home to the first Lord Fairhaven, who filled the manor house with notable antiques, ceramics and paintings. Fairhaven also began the creation of the gardens, which now spread over 98 acres and can be enjoyed by visitors today. Following the footpaths to the opposite end will lead visitors to an old 18th-century watermill, which still grinds wheat. The Abbey is part of the National Trust. There is a lovely restaurant and a good shop selling National Trust products.
